Plastic soda or water bottles make great inexpensive water bottles. A 2-liter bottle fits nicely into the side pocket of most backpacks.
Cooking over a fire
If you like to cook over an open fire, there is nothing like a small rubber hose to encourage reluctant wood, or coax a small ember to life. Start with a 3" piece of 3/8" aluminum or copper tubing. Slip an 18" piece of rubber tubing over the metal and you are ready for action. No more bending over with your face next to the fire trying to blow at just the right spot. One caution! Don't breathe in through the hose.

Friend's Hiking Club was originated by Bruce Roscoe of Prescott in 1996. Formerly of Tempe, Bruce "caught the hiking bug" in his 40's. So enthusiastic was he that he wanted to share his new-found passion with others. The first trip that he planned involved a trip to Havasu for 36 people. As you might imagine, the logistics of THAT are daunting. Unfazed by this first experience, and with the help of some of the "members", Bruce planned dayhikes, backpacks and canoe trips. Soon came monthly get-togethers so that new people could be introduced to the current members of the "club". Bruce moved to Prescott about 5 years ago, and is not active in the club, but the club continued to gather new members interested in exploring Arizona and the surrounding areas.

Since then, Friend's Hiking Club has had over 400 outings in 8 states as well as Mexico. We have hiked in Glacier National Park, The Grand Canyon, The John Muir Trail, Grand Gulch, UT, Canyon de Chelly, Chaco Canyon just to name a few.

Friend's has over 60 members, ages range from 24 to 50-something, married and single, with and without children; with professions ranging from artists to engineers.

We do day hikes, backpacks, canoe/kayack trips, and have activities from Beginner to Advanced - you're sure to find something to tickle your fancy.

So, if you are interested in learning more about our Club, you are welcome to attend any of our hikes or the monthly meeting.
