Plastic soda or water bottles make great inexpensive water bottles. A 2-liter bottle fits nicely into the side pocket of most backpacks.
Cooking over a fire
If you like to cook over an open fire, there is nothing like a small rubber hose to encourage reluctant wood, or coax a small ember to life. Start with a 3" piece of 3/8" aluminum or copper tubing. Slip an 18" piece of rubber tubing over the metal and you are ready for action. No more bending over with your face next to the fire trying to blow at just the right spot. One caution! Don't breathe in through the hose.

A membership in Friend's Camping, Hiking and Outdoor Club is a mere $15.00 per person, per year.

Non-members are always welcome on hikes ($3.00 charge) or at the monthly meetings (free).

Monthly meetings are held at Carmen's Bistro (map - 219 E Baseline Rd Tempe, AZ) at 7 PM on the first Monday of the month to discuss past and future activities, as well as to offer a forum whereby prospective members can meet some of the club members.

The current club membership is about 60, made up of people from 25 to 55+, married and single, ranging from artists to engineers.

Children are welcome on most hikes, but please bear in mind to match the hike and youngster appropriately.

As for dogs: Well behaved, leashed dogs are welcome on hikes suitable for them, unless prohibited by the Hike Leader. That presumes that they are allowed per the managing agency (USFS, BLM, etc.). Dog owners are responsible for "picking up after" their pets, and must obey all leash laws.

To join by mail: Please send your membership check to: Friend's Hiking Club c/o Kurt Sedler - 50 East Myrna - Tempe, AZ. 85284. Include your name, address, phone number, and email address. You may also join at any hike, or at any of the monthly meetings.

Let's go hiking!
